The Axencia Gallega de Innovación has awarded the USC AerogelsLab funding in the first call of the Interregional Vinnovate Galicia mechanism co-financed with the European Union within the framework of the Galicia Feder 2021-2017 program.

AeroCare project focuses on the development of advanced solutions for the management of chronic wounds, a global health problem especially relevant in Northern Portugal and Galicia regions. This project involves a consortium of SMEs, research centers and universities from Galicia and Northern Portugal, and seeks to develop advanced dressings from 3D-printed aerogels loaded with phages with antimicrobial properties, together with textile biosensors that monitor the wound healing. The project contemplates the optimization, validation and commercialization of these materials, in addition to the implementation of sustainable printing and AI technologies.

The innovative approach of the project will have significant clinical and economic impact in the health sector and will contribute to the development of advanced solutions in the Spain-Portugal region, allowing a public-private collaboration to bring innovative products to the market.

In addition to AerogelLab, Health Biolux, CeNTI – Center for Nanotechnology and Smart Materials and the company Tintex texteis participate in the project.
